AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Khabar: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies can support research, academic writing, and scholarly communication in the fields of Islamic communication, broadcasting, and da'wah. However, their use must not replace human intellectual responsibility, scholarly judgment, research integrity, or accountability. The journal therefore requires the transparent, responsible, and ethical use of such technologies in manuscript preparation, submission, peer review, and publication.

Use of AI by Authors

Khabar: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam permits the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies where appropriate, provided that their use complies with the principles of research integrity, transparency, confidentiality, intellectual property, data protection, and applicable ethical standards. The use of AI must support, rather than replace, authors' intellectual contributions, critical analysis, and scholarly judgment in research on Islamic communication, da'wah, broadcasting, digital media, and related fields.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to and published in the journal, including content developed, generated, or modified with the assistance of AI technologies.

  • Authors must verify the accuracy, validity, originality, and academic appropriateness of all AI-assisted content.

  • Authors must verify references, quotations, research data, statistical results, factual statements, and other information generated or suggested by AI systems against reliable and verifiable sources.

  • Authors must ensure that AI-assisted content does not introduce fabricated information, false references, plagiarism, bias, misleading claims, or other violations of research integrity.

  • In research involving Islamic teachings, Qur'anic verses, hadith, interpretations of Islamic scholars, da'wah messages, and Islamic broadcasting content, authors must carefully verify the authenticity, accuracy, context, and scholarly interpretation of the sources used.

  • Authors must ensure that AI-assisted analysis of communication practices, broadcasting materials, social media content, audience responses, and digital media does not misrepresent research evidence or produce unsupported conclusions.

  • Authors remain responsible for obtaining any necessary ethical approval, informed consent, permissions, or authorizations associated with their research, including research involving human participants, media content, or personal data.

  • Confidential, sensitive, personal, proprietary, or unpublished information must not be entered into external AI systems when doing so could violate confidentiality, privacy, research ethics, contractual obligations, or applicable laws.

  • Authors must disclose the use of generative AI when it has contributed to the substantive content of a manuscript, including text generation, data analysis, interpretation, or other intellectual contributions. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and explain its purpose. Routine spelling and grammar correction generally does not require disclosure unless otherwise specified by the journal.

  • AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors retain full responsibility for the content, integrity, and final approval of their manuscripts.

    Disclosure of Generative AI Use

Khabar: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam requires authors to disclose the substantive use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation when such technologies contribute beyond routine spelling and grammar correction, language editing, or formatting.

Where disclosure is required, authors must identify the AI tool or service used and briefly explain its purpose and how it contributed to the research or manuscript. This includes the use of AI for generating or developing substantive text, analyzing communication or broadcasting content, interpreting research findings, or supporting the analysis of Islamic communication, da'wah, and digital media.

Depending on the nature and extent of AI use, the disclosure should be included in the Methods section, Acknowledgments, or a dedicated AI Use Disclosure Statement. Authors must ensure that the disclosure accurately reflects the role of AI in their work and does not misrepresent their intellectual contributions or research process.

The disclosure of AI use does not transfer responsibility for the manuscript to the AI system. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly quality of all submitted content.

    Example AI Disclosure Statement

During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool/service] for [specific purpose, such as language editing, translation, or assisting with the analysis of Islamic communication, da'wah, broadcasting, or digital media]. The authors carefully reviewed and verified all AI-assisted content and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of the manuscript.

    AI Cannot Be an Author

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems, large language models, chatbots, and other automated tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Khabar: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam. Authorship requires intellectual contribution, responsibility, and accountability that can only be attributed to human contributors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the entire submitted and published work, including content developed or modified with the assistance of AI technologies.

    AI-Generated Output as a Source

Generative AI must not be treated as an authoritative scholarly source. Authors are responsible for locating, reading, evaluating, and citing original and reliable scholarly sources to support claims made in their manuscripts. References, quotations, and factual information suggested or generated by AI systems must be independently verified before inclusion in a manuscript.

In research involving Islamic communication, da'wah, broadcasting, Islamic teachings, Qur'anic verses, hadith, and interpretations of Islamic scholars, authors must ensure that all sources are authentic, accurate, relevant, and appropriately interpreted. AI-generated responses must not replace direct engagement with primary sources or established scholarly literature.

AI-Generated or AI-Assisted Data, Images, and Analyses

When AI technologies form part of the research methodology, including data processing, classification, prediction, analysis, simulation, image processing, media analysis, or other substantive research procedures, authors must describe their use with sufficient detail to enable appropriate scholarly evaluation.

For research in Islamic communication, broadcasting, digital media, social media, and da'wah, authors should explain the role of AI in analyzing communication content, audience responses, media representations, or other relevant research materials where applicable.

Authors must ensure that AI-generated or AI-assisted figures, images, tables, datasets, transcripts, and other research materials comply with applicable ethical, copyright, licensing, privacy, and research integrity requirements. AI must not be used to fabricate or manipulate research evidence or to produce misleading representations of research findings.

    AI-Generated Content Screening

Khabar: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam may use appropriate automated tools, including AI-writing detection software, as part of its editorial screening procedures to support the assessment of manuscript originality and compliance with the journal's AI policy.

Where an AI-writing indicator raises concerns, the editorial team may conduct additional assessment and request clarification, disclosure of relevant AI use, or manuscript revision where appropriate.

An AI-detection percentage is not conclusive evidence of AI use, plagiarism, or research misconduct. Automated detection results must be interpreted cautiously and considered alongside the manuscript's content, the author's disclosure, the quality of the research, and other relevant evidence. Editorial decisions remain subject to human assessment.

Any numerical indicator used by the journal as an internal screening guideline must not be treated as an automatic acceptance or rejection threshold. Manuscripts with low detection indicators may still require assessment if other concerns arise, while manuscripts with high indicators must not be considered to constitute misconduct solely on the basis of an automated result.

Use of Generative AI by Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers must protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all materials associated with the review process. Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, manuscript extracts, unpublished data, figures, or other protected material to external generative AI systems where doing so could compromise confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, or research integrity.

Generative AI must not replace the reviewer's independent scholarly assessment. Review reports must reflect the reviewer's own expertise, critical evaluation, and academic judgment. Any permitted use of AI for limited language editing must not compromise confidentiality or alter the substance of the review.

Reviewers remain responsible for the accuracy, fairness, confidentiality, and integrity of their review reports.

Use of Generative AI by Editors

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, unpublished research materials, reviewer reports, and editorial communications. Confidential content must not be uploaded to external generative AI systems unless such
